It is as if I am energizing people to work and never giving them a break! Why should you want to break any way? Your leave from work and weekends should suffice for a good rest. But not retirement at early stage! Why should I say so?
Is it Biblical to retire early in one’s working life? In our present era, there is a mad rush for people to retire early so that they can focus on personal enjoyment, entertainment and possibly spend time on family responsibilities. Abraham worked till he died at age 175 (Genesis 25:7). Moses worked till he died at 120 years (Deuteronomy 34:7). Elijah, however, demanded early retirement because Jezebel, the wicked wife of King Ahab pursued to kill him (…“I’ve had enough. Just let me die! I’m no better off than my ancestors” -1 Kings 19:4).
Are you planning to retire early so that you can visit the lakes, beaches, travel overseas and spend your fortune or you just want to while away time in lazy comfort to be treated with all the perks in SPAs and sporting activities? Let’s look closely at this topic today.
“He who literally wishes to retire completely here on earth has no longer any goal before him, and thus no right to continue living in this Creation, because he has set an “end” to himself through his volition. The swinging of Creation, however, does not show any end, it has no end. Continuous development through movement is a law in the Will of God and can therefore never be circumvented without ill effect.
“The man who really retires here on earth, who wishes to rest from his activities until the end of his life, such a man will be cast aside by the law of rhythmic movements of this Creation as being an over-ripe fruit, because all the swinging, the movement around him, is much stronger than the movement within himself, which must keep in step. Such a man is bound to grow weak and fall ill. Only when his individual swinging and alertness keep pace with the prevailing movement in Creation, only then can he remain healthy, hearty and happy.
“You will surely have noticed that those people who have continually to exert themselves in order to earn their living are often much healthier and live longer than those who have been very well off since their youth, who have been watched over and looked after in the most careful manner. You will also have observed that people who have grown up in wealthy circumstances and who use all the remedies for their bodies they can get, and who live comfortably and without excitement; that such people show the outward signs of approaching old age much earlier than those not endowed with earthly possessions, who always have to spend their days in working”- Abd-ru-shin (Motion – A Law of Creation (The Grail Message))
To retire at advanced age due to civil law of your jurisdiction but to keep yourself still going, the following is recommended:-
- Participate in Joyful Activity: Engage in meaningful activities that return something of value to other people. You could still set up a consultancy to give guidance to the youth in your chosen career path. If you had sufficient money to live on, you could do this service for free. But do not die with the knowledge still alive within you without passing it on to the next generation. Charity activities are highly recommended.
- Sports and jogging: These are not the gate to a healthy life for the aged. Deterioration sets in despite these activities because they are not of any corresponding benefit to another person (For bodily exercise profits a little but godliness is profitable for all things…..! 1 Timothy 4:8). You may be fit to some extent but it is not the end to healthy living for the aged. But determination to conquer Canaan with the request that he should be given a mountain at the age of 85 years is a signal that Caleb did not go jogging to keep himself fit(Joshua 12: 10-12). It is the vitality of the spirit within you that keeps the body fit; not the other way round!
- Lazy Comfort: Avoid all the lazy comforts that the world of today offers. They are like sleeping sickness that paralyze the spirit and often disarm you from your real tasks on this earth.
Today I have called upon you to avoid the desire to retire early. Continue to work for the Lord in joyful way. Continue to give back your skills and talents that the Lord God has given you in service to mankind. See to it that you are alive in the wonderful Creation of your God!
